Veterans Day is a special time to pause and honor those who have served our Country; heart and soul poured out much at the expense of their own self.

After the physical training and service in the military, it’s understandable for Veterans to have health needs that need to be met in a personalized, unique way. From non-specific ailments such as migraines, to chronic conditions like arthritis, Dr. Nash is experienced with recognizing the needs of, and treating these heroic patients.

There are several types of injuries a soldier can develop – even years later as a Vet – whether in training or in the middle of combat and war. Some of the most common are:

Musculoskeletal Ailments

Obviously, serving in the military is hard on your body, and around 60% of recent veterans were diagnosed with musculoskeletal ailments. Ankle sprains are one of the most common types of injuries in active-duty soldiers, and lingering pain in the back, necks, knees, and shoulders were the most common complaints reported during Veterans post-deployment health visits.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the wearing down of the protective tissue at the ends of bones. Seeing how it is also referred to as the ‘wear and tear joint disease,’ it’s understandable how after enduring the heavy lifting, and repetitive endurance required of a soldier that this is one of the most common reasons for early military discharge.

Autoimmune disorders, and mental health disorders

Autoimmune disorders are diseases that develop when the immune system attacks healthy tissue, and are significantly higher among veterans. The prolong stress and PTSD from service causes the body to stay in a state of inflammation, which can lead to biological changes in the body. These biological changes can trigger multiple inflammatory diseases. While Dr. Nash does not immediately treat mental health disorders such as PTSD, removing additional stressors on the body, such as pain, can support the process of mental healing.
